Description

Zamia encephalartoides is a unique cycad that grows in and around the deep, dry canyons in the eastern Andes of Colombia near the river Chicamocha. The hot, dry, stony and open landscape contrasts sharply with the locations of other Colombian Zamia species growing typically in the wet rainforests. With the tough, leathery leaves and large, colored Cones Zamia encephalartoides is quite remarkable and is somewhat similar to the genus "Encephalartos" from Africa.
